Typography 1 | Student Work
Student works included are those that most successfully answered the brief, had a unique visual perspective, and/or demonstrated typographic proficiency.
The Restaurant: Project Overview
Students will design three TYPE-ONLY compositions/deliverables for a fictional restaurant. Thinking typographically and systematically, students will consider hierarchy, composition, message intent, and context.
Visual Constraints
Utilize only typographic elements to create the designs (letters and glyphs)
2-color Palette (plus black, white, and transparency)
Maximum of two typefaces from the allowed list (one serif, one sans)
Design Brief Generator
Students will complete an in-class exercise to generate a randomized 5-element design brief for a unique restaurant. (ex; My client is an all day brunch spot in Charleston, SC serving street-style tacos with a retro 1980s style. The poster will announce an upcoming holiday event.)
National “Places:” Project Overview
Design Requirements/Deliverables:
Create a set of two typography-focused, visually related informational pamphlets on nationally recognized landmarks. Each pamphlet will include a center-fold style poster. Pamphlets and posters will utilize an assigned grid inspired by Vignelli’s National Parks Uni-Grid.
